The Department of Textile Materials & Chemical Processing of the School of Textile, Leather and Fashion (STLF) was established in May 1998 via merging 3 disciplines: Textile Material, Textile Chemical Technology and Leather - Footwear. Two disciplines of Textile Material and Textile Chemical Technology were formed from the day of HUST’s establishment in 1956.

The department offers one of the most extensive ranges of specialisation for universities of applied sciences in Germany, both in the Bachelor's programmes as well as in the Master's programmes.

The department provide outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, scientific research, technology transfer and training for the industry in the in the fields of textile material, textile chemical technology and footwear. At present, the department is managing

two specialisations, namely Textile material & chemical processing and Leather & footwear technology. In addition, the department is responsible for teaching some basic courses for all majors of in the school training program.

The vision of the department is to become a centre of excellence in the areas of Textile material, Textile chemical technology, Leather - Footwear technology, and related disciplines through education and knowledge creation.

The mission of the department is to provide pioneering interdisciplinary science and technology education, foster research and consultancy for the benefit of national and international communities.
